Writing a book introduction is difficult, let alone one for a nonfiction work written for ballet dancers and teachers. The Illustrated Fundamentals of Classical Ballet for Everyone started as Instagram content coinciding with the blog A Ballet Education. Now, eleven years later, the first of three volumes is being published with the hopes of helping anyone gain access to ballet information. The first volume contains over 250 illustrations and over 300 definitions that define the art form and technique. David King of A Ballet Education takes ballet information for dancers, parents, students, and admirers and breaks down the information for everyone.

REVIEWS

“David King colorfully educates and inspires dancers and enthusiasts of all ages and levels through his own life experiences and knowledge. He explores the meaning of American Ballet by comparing pedagogies and methods that have been collated from many generations of teachers before. Through his passion, King admirably creates a platform for ballet to be accessible to all.” —Eastlyn Jensen, Dancer, Ballet Arizona

“Current, insightful, intelligent and accessible. A must have for both dancers and lovers of ballet alike!”— Jason Coosner, Director of Burbank Dance Academy, Los Angeles

“Beautifully illustrated and technically accessible. Finally a book ballet teachers will actually use.”—Tamara Sparkles, San Francisco

“From the new dancer to the serious dancer, and even the parents of serious dancers, The Illustrated Fundamentals of Classical Ballet for Everyone is a quintessential deep dive into all things ballet. David King’s uniquely charming illustrations add instructional kinetic details and a dash of sweetness. And his emphasis on inclusivity and representation solidifies that ballet is for everyone.” —Nadia Vostrikov, Journalist and Dance Critic, NYC

“From the experience of his past, Mr King comes forth with a Ballet illustration that screams raw passion for the art form. From the drawings, history and even down to the correct pronunciations, there is so much to give to so many different kinds of Ballet educators. This is a must have in your repertoire.”— Jens Lee, Ballet Master, Gaithersburg, Maryland

“A one of a kind ballet book! Wherever you are on your ballet journey, this book is going to be useful and educational. It has a wealth of information and the illustrations are not only beautiful but precise. I feel that ballet students will learn so much from this book alongside their ballet classes. David has explained the theory and terminology in an interesting way with great visuals to help the student retain this information. The ballet history is so interesting and necessary for the students to understand, and again this has been written and illustrated perfectly.” —-Jacqui Pickering, Scottsdale, Arizona
